Working with Congress, you often find yourself sitting and waiting and waiting and nothing seems to happen. Until something does happen!!

YOU DID IT!!! On Tuesday the Trafficking Victims Reauthorization Act of 2012 passed the Senate as an amendment to the Violence Against Women Act. For the past two years, Women of Vision and advocates across the country have used their voices, creativity, time, and talent to ensure the U.S. remains a global leader in the fight to end modern-day slavery. We thank the Senate for passing this important piece of bipartisan legislation and we thank you too!! The power of your voices rang clearly through the Senate chambers.

We are now one step closer to the reauthorization of the TVPRA, this is a result of the tireless work of advocates. Our work, however, is not done. In order for the TVPRA to become law this year, the House of Representatives needs to act. The House has not yet introduced its own version of the TVPRA and at the end of last year, there was no bipartisan bill in the House. We said that the Senate acting would place pressure on the House. Well, the pressure’s on.

Make three phone calls today. First, call your senators and thank them for supporting the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act. Then call your representative and ask them to support the creation of a bipartisan Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.

Your voice matters and this vote proves it. Thank you.
