ATEST, 150 NGOS Call on Senate to Pass TVPRA

October 13, 2011

150 national anti-trafficking civil society groups, coalitions, faith-based organizations, and law enforcement partners joined the Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking (ATEST) in support of S. 1301, the Senate's version of the 2011 Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA). The Act, as reauthorized in 2008, expired on September 30th of this year. In advance of yesterday's Senate markup of S. 1301 by the full Judiciary Committee, ATEST submitted a letter of support urging the Senate to pass the legislation. The bill passed through the Committee with a 12-6 vote. This is a critical opportunity to contine the fight to end modern-day slavery in our generation and further the victim-centered approach that has been crucial to combating human trafficking.
